The great spender

The NEEWER Q6 600Ws TTL Outdoor Flash is a powerful and affordable portable strobe that performs exceptionally well in real-world portrait and outdoor shoots. With enough 600Ws output to overpower sunlight, fast recycle times that keep up during sessions, reliable TTL and high-speed sync, long battery life, and a Bowens mount compatible with a huge range of softboxes and modifiers, it delivers results that feel close to much more expensive lighting systems. I personally liked how portable it was for location shoots, and the battery never let me down — I only needed to recharge it once I got home. The main downside was that my Canon R50 required the Canon AD-E1 adapter for reliable wireless triggering, as Canon’s R-series cameras can sometimes be finicky with third-party flash systems. Before using the adapter, I relied on the camera’s built-in flash to trigger the Q6 remotely, but that added unwanted extra light from the camera itself. Once properly set up, operation was seamless. I also mounted the Q6 onto a tripod using a spare mount, which made it far more portable than carrying around a large light stand. If you’re on a budget and looking to get into portrait photography, the Q6 is a fantastic choice and an excellent entry into off-camera lighting.

I mix Neewer and Godox flashes driving them all from the Godox Xpro or X3Pro transmitter, The firmware was already up to date and I just needed to enable the receiver compatibility in the menu. Push buttons and a clear display provide all the obvious functionality that is needed. The batteries easily last several of my typical outdoor shoots. The fact these are portable but use a bowens mount is great. I would have liked it if the case was designed to take the flash without removing the stand adapter on the bottom, but not really a big deal. I could find nothing compelling to make me pay for the far more expensive Q4 pro. They are a little heavy for mounting on a hand-held boom but for 400W any mke is going to be the same. It takes only a few moments to get used to the unusual shape, but the shallow form factor can be helpful when using this in a large umbrella style softbox. Outside in the sun, using this for my key light and dropping the background into shadow, I was running at just 1/8th power in a large 90cm octabox so this is plenty bright enough for outside work without waiting forever for it to recycle. It is perhaps a shame it is not weather proof, but adding a lightweight cover is no problem. The handles on the top look a little out of place but super robust and very handy they make carrying these a delight. Not sure about the small standard reflectors - I've used this bare behin the model for rim and hair lighting and the provided reflector did a perfect job, but I would normally switch to something a little wider - still this is a standard mounting so all my old studio modifiers are available for use. The case is nice and semi-hard with carry strap and with a moulded interior, wondering If I might be able to modify the insert to carry 2 flashes in one case. Colour matters and I'm getting very nice skin tones!

It is a very good light au pair with the more expensive brands. It’s good value for money and it’s extremely well built. Highly recommended

The NEEWER Q4 delivers impressive power and consistent lighting for both indoor and outdoor shoots. The TTL function works well, it's easy to set up, and the battery lasts through long sessions. Excellent value for photographers looking for a reliable portable flash.

I typically don’t write reviews for products or services simply because I don’t make the time to do so but this flash has allowed me to win the war between me and the sun lol the flash even dropped the first day of me using it and Neewer is taking care of me without any questions what’s so ever. The strobe is awesome within its self but to have a brand you can trust is more important for a photographer and their business. When you purchase from NEEWER that’s what you’re getting. A company that is just as passionate as you are.

I did not put it to real test yet but in focus stacking the flash missed 1 shot so I had to make 2sec space between shots and it worked

Easily able to pair the Q6 with my QZ-C touchscreen trigger and my Canon R6 Mk 2. This is a substantial flash with quite a bit of weight. Having a 600 watt flash powered by a single battery used to be the stuff of dreams so having one that travels anywhere without the limitations of cords and cables is great!

The interface is straightforward and easy to navigate. The displays are easy to read and understand. I also love the option of using my tablet to adjust the settings on the flash itself once it's mounted on my C-Stand. The light is consistent, stable, and strong with plenty of battery power for long/multiple shoots. I'm also using this with a ND circular polarizer filter and getting excellent results! I'm really looking forward to putting in the time to get familiar with it. This one's a keeper and it's nice knowing that I have this kind of power and capability anywhere I need it.

Zero regrets, I would buy it again in a second.

£490 at time of review reduced from £600I shoot video more often than stills, and on the occasion I do shoot stills and required a flash I have a Neewer Q3, which it brilliant as it’s compact, works TTL with my Q Pro trigger on my Sony’s and it’s bright… well I thought it was bright until I unleashed this beast, holy cow, this thing is like having your own personal sun on a light stand! My Q3 is 200Ws and that’s nothing to be sneezed at, but this 600Ws and boy can I tell the difference!OK the body is three times the size (not including the bulb out front), although saying that this is still relatively compact TBH, and I’d say 50% of the body of this is the battery. It’s probably around 3x the price too, so would you be better getting 3 Q3’s instead of this (or three Q4’s for that matter at their current discount?), hmm depends on your needs, but if you want the most power and brightness in a single box, you can’t go far wrong with this.Physical set up is a doddle, set up your stand, plonk this on, attach your soft box, fire up your app or use the touch screen on the unit (which is very nice and clear), connect your trigger and you’re off to the races. I had this and my Q3 working and triggering seamlessly from my Q Pro trigger on my Sony, so for me this was child’s play to set up as I already have neewer lights and flashes. The modelling light is quite bright on it’s own, ideally for studio or low light conditions only, but it does give a useful idea of what you will get (although personally I rarely use the modelling light)I found that I only ever needed to max this out at 50% brightness for everything I shot, and I probably look about 300-350 photos and it hardly made a dent in the battery! So this is definitely a work horse in that respect, it would likely do a pro shoot all day and not break a sweat.Hope my review was helpful

I tried this flash and found the build quality and features to be solid. It performed as described and seemed capable for the right use case. Ultimately, it did not fit my specific workflow or needs, so I decided to return it. That said, there was nothing inherently wrong with the product itself. This could be a good option for someone whose setup aligns better with what it offers.
